January 2027 has 31 days. It starts on Friday, January 1 (New Year's Day) and ends on Sunday, January 31. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 18. Because the month opens on a Friday, the first few days are a long weekend for many people, and the first full Monday-to-Friday week is January 4–8.
Use the first days to set up, not to sprint
It is tempting to start every new habit on January 1. But that is a holiday, often after a late night. A calmer plan uses January 1–3 to set up the calendar and decide on goals, then starts routines on Monday, January 4, when normal schedules resume.
Realistic habit examples
A habit is something you want to repeat regularly. The most common mistake is choosing too many, or making them too big. Pick one or two, sized so you could do them on a busy day.
| Big wish | Calendar-sized habit | How to mark it |
|---|---|---|
| Get fit | Walk 20 minutes, Mon/Wed/Fri | A small check in each box when done |
| Read more | 10 pages before bed | Tally marks; total them at month end |
| Save money | Move a set amount every payday | Write the amount on each payday |
Marking each completed day matters because you can see progress, and gaps, at a glance. If you miss a day, mark nothing and carry on. The goal is a mostly filled pattern, not a perfect one.
Fixed deadlines and trial periods
January often includes dates like the end of a free trial, a return window for holiday gifts, or the start of a class. Read each one carefully, because “within 30 days” and “through January 30” are different questions.
- “Trial runs January 1 through January 14”: both dates are included, so January 14 is the last day of the trial. Write “Trial ends – cancel?” on January 13 to give yourself a day of margin.
- “Cancel within 14 days of January 1”: adding 14 days to January 1 gives January 15. Terms differ on whether that day itself counts, so check the wording and plan for the earlier date.
Setting up the page
- In the maker, choose Classic Monthly, January, 2027, and 1 month (or 12 months for the whole year).
- Leave US holidays on to show New Year's Day and MLK Jr. Day.
- Type fixed deadlines first, then leave the rest for handwritten habit checks.
- Use the Monthly 5-Day layout instead if your plans are mostly weekday work or school.
A review plan
- Sunday, January 10: after the first full week, check whether your habits are sized right.
- Sunday, January 24: adjust before the month ends. Drop or shrink anything you skipped most days.
- Sunday, January 31: count your checks, note one thing that worked, and set February's habits.
