Choosing a week start sounds like a big decision, but it only changes one thing: which day appears in the first column of each row. Every date stays on the same weekday. November 1, 2026 is a Sunday whichever layout you choose. What changes is how the rows group your days together.

The same week, two ways

Here is the first full week of November 2026 in each layout. Notice that the dates and weekdays match; only the starting column moves.

In the Monday-start version, November 1 sits alone at the end of the first row, with October days before it. That is why the same month can need a different number of rows: November 2026 takes five rows when weeks start on Sunday and six rows when they start on Monday.

Weekends together or split

With a Monday start, Saturday and Sunday sit side by side at the end of every row. A weekend trip from Saturday to Sunday stays on one line. With a Sunday start, Sunday is at the far left and Saturday at the far right, so each weekend is split across two rows.

If you plan weekend activities as one block, Monday start is usually easier to read. If Sunday feels like the beginning of your week, for example because it is the day you prepare for school or attend services, Sunday start may feel more natural. Sunday start is also the common layout on wall calendars sold in the United States, so it may simply look familiar.

What about ISO weeks?

ISO 8601 is an international standard for writing dates. One part of it numbers the weeks of the year and always starts those weeks on Monday. That only matters if you use week numbers, for example “week 12” at work. If you never refer to numbered weeks, you can ignore it. Not every app follows ISO, so check your own software if week numbers matter to you.

How switching works in the maker

  • The “Week starts on” buttons offer Sunday and Monday on the monthly, weekly, and yearly layouts.
  • The Monthly 5-Day layout shows Monday to Friday only, so it has no week-start choice.
  • Notes you typed are saved against their date, not their position, so a note on November 26 stays on November 26 after you switch.
  • On weekly layouts, the first page is the week containing the 1st of your chosen start month. Switching the week start changes which seven days that page covers.

Quick test before you print

  1. Open the maker and choose a month you know well.
  2. Look at it with Sunday start, then press Monday.
  3. Find next weekend and one fixed work or school day. Which version lets you see them faster?
  4. Keep that one, and use the same choice on every calendar in the house so nobody misreads a column.
